Airtime Witsand – 20-21st January

Prepare for lift-off in Witsand this weekend!

The fourth annual Airtime event sponsored by Breedezicht is coming up this weekend in Breede River, Witsand, South Africa from January 20 – 21st. Riders will be looking to jump higher, and for longer, than anyone else for a cash prize of R16000 as they battle for the first ever Witsand Airtime trophy.

The competition will be held in front of the Pili Pili Restaurant on the windiest day of the weekend. This event is open to men, women, juniors, amateurs and pro kiteboarders with up to 32 spots available. Competitors will be aiming to achieve the longest hangtime with a bonus prize for the most stylish jump. Defending champion Ross Dillon from Cape Town will be challenged by Durban’s Joshua Emanuel ‐ current holder of the WOO World Record for highest jump.

This event’s all about fun and welcomes all members of the kiteboarding community, whatever their skill level. Airtime Witsand is spectator friendly, with plenty of space to enjoy the action. Throughout the weekend, all guests and riders are invited to participate in events including the LBRC Witsand Beach Cleanup, Artie Louw’s lecture on sharks, and Saturday’s NSRI Spit Braai followed by a party featuring guest Goodvibe Dub Foundation.

Besides kiting, Witsand is well known for competitive fishing and kayaking and is a stop on the Cape Aghulas motorboat race. For kiteboarders, this spot offers world class conditions, bringing riders from around the world to shred the flatwater lagoon in the river mouth.

If you’ve not been there before then it’s definitely somewhere you need to check out!
