Duotone’s 5 Surfboards: all angles covered

 

 

Sky Solbach, Duotone’s directional board shaper, gazes upon the boards that showcase his efforts and attention to detail over the past year of development. Here’s the line up in a nutshell:

 

PRO SESSION

 

 

When the waves are bigger, this is the board you want. It’s drive and carving ability allows you to stay connected to the wave face during big drawn out carves, making it the ultimate competition machine. The Pro Session comes with the option to ride it as a quad set-up, which increases speed and stability at high speed and is the preferred option for bigger carves (greater radius). The thruster set-up (3 fin) provides tighter carve which is better suited to top-to-bottom surfing.

 

PRO WAM

 

2020 Pro Wam Duotone

 

This board comes in response to requests from younger riders between 40-65kg who wanted a smaller board that didn’t compromise on performance. There are two sizes, the 5’5″ and the 5’3″.

 

PRO FISH

 

 

The Pro Fish sits in the middle ground between the Pro Whip and the Pro Wam. It’s wider and shorter than the Wam but less compact than the whip, with a completely different outline. The result is a board that is forgiving and easy to ride in most conditions, from knee height to double overhead. What’s noticable when riding is how stable it is when charging though chop – it carries it’s speed on the wave even when you’ve got slack in your lines, meaning your riding doesn’t get compromised. Out of the whole range, the Pro Fish is probably the easiest to ride – a board that will help you get the most out of your session.

 

PRO WHIP

 

 

This board has seen the most development over the past year. You’ll notice it in it’s surfing and handling, which has improved due to the wide point being slight further forward. This increases the nose rocker whilst dereasing the overall surface area, resulting in a better balance. This means tighter turns, explosive snap off the top and decreased chances of catching edges. 

 

PRO HYBRID

 

 

This is a crossover surf and foil board built in the high performance and light Pro Construction. The shape is inspired by the Pro Whip and works in small to medium size waves. The fully integrated 4-point mast connection has minimum influence on the weight and flex of the board to keep its surf characteristic while giving you a solid connection to the foil. If you only want to travel with one board and have strapless and foil options covered, this is the one for you.
