Six Reasons To Visit Pointe D’esny, Mauritius

Pointe D’esny, Mauritius

Think the season’s over in Mauritius? Think again. Planet Kitesurf get bookings into December with people taking advantage of last minute deals. Fancy it? Here are six reasons to check out this lesser known gem on the island…

Pointe D’esny Mauritius

1) Fewer crowds

While the bucket list destination of Le Morne may already be on your kitesurfing radar, the Indian Ocean Island of Mauritius has so many more spots to offer. From Anse La Raie in the north, to the windy Belle Mare in the east and the beautiful Bel Ombre in the south, Mauritius has so many epic spots to choose from. But to avoid the crowds, Pointe D’esny offers more secluded riding with enough space for every discipline.

2) Big ol’ lagoon

While Pointe D’esny may not have the waves you’ll find at One Eye, it does have a clean, expansive beach, free of pine trees and other obstacles that leads down to a large lagoon. Here there is ample space for learning, foiling or practicing your tricks far away from the crowds of Mauritius’ other spots. The wind is generally south or south-east (cross-shore) and while lighter than some of the island’s other spots, it is clean and consistent and extends for most of the year.

3) Kitefoiling heaven

The huge lagoon here is deeper than at some of the island’s other locations, making it the place for kite foiling holidays. The centre offers foiling lessons + rental and Jerome Bonieux (who co-owns the centre), is at the forefront of the foiling industry, working with leaders like Duotone in pioneering new boards.

4) Personalised kite courses

Jerome and his partner Dom run the kite lessons here so you’re guaranteed a personalised experience with some of the best kite instructors on the island. They do the instruction from their rescue boats so that they’re always close by if you need them. They can also arrange a pick up in their speedboat from your hotel, taking the VIP feeling to a whole new level!

5) A brand new luxury resort

The Preskil is situated on its own private island, surrounded entirely by water and is less than a two-minute speedboat ride away from the kite centre. The resort has just reopened after extensive renovations, with facilities including an extensive watersports center, three amazing restaurants, two swimming pools, and a kids club.

6) Close to the airport and family friendly

At a 15-minute drive from the airport, the Preskil Island Resort is a good choice for families. The kid’s club offers a range of pre-organised activities to keep the little ones busy, while non-kiting partners can relax on the resort’s beaches, which are slightly set back in the bay and thus protected from the wind. You can also arrange cooking classes, catamaran trips, snorkeling excursions, cycling tours and nature walks with the hotel for when you’re not out on the water and want to spend some quality time with the kids.
