Featuring flat water to little waves, warm water and an authentic Brazilian ambience, Tremembé is something of a dream spot! All followed up by quality, healthy food with friendly, like-minded people.

The shallow water makes it safe and easy for beginners and a fantastic place to bust out tricks for advanced kiters. Tremembé is tidal, so there’s plenty of variety along this diverse and varied stretch of coastline and with more than 7500 kilometres of accessible beach to explore you can expect to find plenty of hidden spots and lagoons. Afternoon winds are onshore so it’s easy to downwind. Mangrove, a fantastic place to snap some breathtaking riding shots, is five kilometres away. Four kilometres the other way is Peixe Gordo ('Fat Fish' in English), a nice little wave spot that novice wave riders will love. Redonda, 16 kilometres away, is primarily suited to more advanced riders due to being a tidal spot, though kicks up some small but very rippable waves (on a full moon). Further afield (if you can handle some major back-leg quad burn) a 36 kilometre downwind mission will get you to an epic flat water spot called Pernambuquinho that works best on a half moon. If you want to venture even further then there's the awesome flat water of Lagoa de Uruau, a 90 minute drive towards Fortaleza, and Galinhos and Barra do Cunhau can be found heading towards Natal.
WIND, WEATHER AND WATER
Mid-September through November it blows 24 hours a day! Averaging 15-18 knots in the mornings from 06.30 to 10.30, building to reach 18-22 knots in the afternoons allowing you to ride till dark in strong cross-onshore winds. Due to the tides there’s a lot of variation; flat, shallow water at low tide and chop and small waves at higher tides with biggest waves and tides in January / February. Water temps of around 32°C / 90°F year round. Three degrees below the equator, Icapuí has a tropical climate and is split into two seasons - the rainy season (February to May) is a bit less kite friendly with dying wind, increased humidity... and mosquitoes!
The main accommodation here is the Kite Mansion pousada and kite club located directly by the beach. Two types of lodging: traditional bungalows and rooms in the main building. Both are simple but well appointed and clean.

THE KITE MANSION founders Sam and Nico have ten years teaching experience and offer everything from beginner to advanced lessons, covering wakestyle, freestyle, old school, strapless wave riding, wave freestyle and even wakeskate riding. Using helmet mounted radios Kite Mansion is an official Best school with a full fleet of rentals available.
No wind is rare, but there’s a huge expanse of coastline to explore either on foot, by horse or by SUP and the surf season brings a steady supply of waves as the wind becomes less reliable.
Be aware that while Tremembé's surrounding area is comparatively safe, this is still Brazil so use common sense in unfamiliar areas. 45 kilometres from Tremembé is Canoa Quebrada; a small fishing village hidden away among dunes and cliffs with spectacular views. Known as Broadway, it's highly treasured by the Ceara tourist board and comes alive at night, particularly during carnival season!
Tremembé is small. Private taxis are easy to find and reasonably priced. There's a local bus service, too. Car, 4x4 or beach buggy rental can be arranged through the Kite Mansion, in the nearby Icapuí or in Fortaleza airport. To venture down the coast, a 4x4 or beach buggy is advisable instead of a car. Plan your route to avoid any dodgy areas.
Brazilian Reais (R$) - £1 = R$4 / €1 = R$3 / US$ = R$2.6 There are ATMs in Icapuí and some places may take credit cards but not all.
FOOD AND DRINK
The Kite Mansion has a wide variety of dishes on offer from freshly caught seafood to more international dishes as well as regular barbeques. This region has its own speciality called Lagosta and the fisherman are only allowed to fish for it from June to December, so try it if you get a chance. There are other bars and places to eat in Icapuí seven kilometres away.
Fortaleza airport (FOR), otherwise known as Pinto Martinez, is 220 kilometres from the pousada / a two-and-a-half hour taxi ride which the Kite Mansion can arrange for you for €100. A bus is much cheaper (€10) but takes four or five hours.
