Kitesurfing - Namotu, Fiji

Located deep in the islands of the South Pacific, a trip to Namotu Island, Fiji, is much more than just a kitesurfing vacation; it's a fully inclusive experience for the waterman / woman and his/her family. This inclusive resort boasts some of the best food in Fiji, prepared by international chefs. Accommodating a maximum of only 26 guests allows the staff to provide personalised attention.

There are waves of all sizes and intensity around Namotu to practice your wave riding technique on in addition to the miles of flat water surrounding the island. Chase boats are available to keep an eye on guests at all times.

Namotu is Fiji’s premier kitesurfing destination with the perfect combinations of variable wave conditions, flat water and steady, consistent wind. A large sand spit for set-up/launching has no trees or tall buildings in the way and no tide issues. The strong SE trade winds blowing across the South Pacific from June - September are ideal for both wave kiting and flat water. Namotu Left breaks directly in front of the resort approximately 700 yards off the reef with the trade blowing cross-off  down-the-line in the same direction as the wave breaks. Wilkes Pass is an onshore, bigger right. Swimming Pools is a smaller wave, breaking right in a very defined area. The wind is usually cross-on, again in the same direction as the wave breaks, meaning you can follow it easily along its length.

Cloudbreak is one of the most famous waves in the world and strictly for advanced riders only. It requires a 30-minute sail out to the wave or boat transportation. The wind blows cross-off and kiting is only encouraged here when the wind is too strong for traditional surfing.

SE trade winds can blow a consistent 15 -  25 knots June - September for days or weeks on end. Winds can be strong at other times of the year but are less consistent and often variable. Southern hemisphere winter south swell season also hits June - September. Waves range from waist-high to 12 feet, but each break picks up the swell differently, so even on big days there will still be smaller waves available. Your ten will be your most used kite, but bring bigger and smaller, too.

Both water and air temperatures remain quite consistent throughout the year at 24°C / 80°F with only a few degrees variation throughout the year and at night. The weather is quite simply ideal.

Namotu Island Resort offers an inclusive personalised experience. Three and four star accommodations to suit various groups. Bungalows built with a tropical feel have great views and air flow and each unit is fully air-conditioned with private bathroom facilities.

Wide variety of meals served, including fresh seafood, steak, chicken, Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisine. The central bar and lounge area picks up satellite TV for big sporting events and often turns into a Karaoke party!

Swim, snorkel or scuba dive in the crystal-clear water surrounding the island. Guests are encouraged to join one of the daily fishing trips to catch fresh fish for dinner. Expansive lounging decks surround the dining and pool areas. Pool table, ping pong table and darts in the games room. Enjoy a relaxing massage or select a book from the library. A round of golf can be easily arranged with a short helicopter ride directly to the course.

US$3,750 per person package air inclusive / $2,600 land only per week, running Saturday/Saturday, including 3+ meals per day, water, tea, coffee, round trip airport transfers, unlimited use of island surf shuttle/chase boats, use of all resort facilities and equipment – SUP boards, snorkelling equipment, fishing gear and tackle.

International flights arrive and depart Nadi Fiji. Guests are picked up and transferred to the island by vehicle and boat. Round trip transfers are included in the package price and take approximately 90 minutes.

There is no kite school on Namotu, but lifeguards with boats and jet-skis keep an eye on everybody at all times. There is some spare gear, but anybody coming to the island should bring their own gear. Returning pros like Ben Wilson occasionally run clinics.
