LOCAL KNOWLEDGE Corpus Christi International airport (CRP) is the best and closest airport and puts you just a short 15 minute drive from all riding spots. Alternatively San Antionio is about a 2.5 hour drive away from Corpus. It's worth getting a rental car from the airport to hit all the spots and getting around in Corpus is very easy with only a few main roads. Corpus is a city, not just a tourist destination, so there are many places to eat within walking or a short drive. You'll also find HEB supermarkets at just about every turn for all your daily necessities. Downtown Corpus is the place to go for a good beer and to hang out and is just a short ten minute drive from the furthest riding spot. Mulligans Pub is the regular haunt of many of the kiters.
NON-KITING KICKS Corpus is a great place to bring the family with unlimited beach hangouts, parks and attractions like the aquarium and Lexington Ship Museum. Other sporting activities include surfing, windsurfing, skimboarding or fishing.
POCKET MONEY CURRENCY: US dollar ($) £1 = $1.5 / €1 = $1.4. BEER = $2.5. AVERAGE RESTAURANT MEAL (no alcohol) = $12. AVERAGE HOTEL = $60-80.

SNAPSHOT Year round kiting is available at this spot on the Gulf coast. The riding day count in the year is as high here as anywhere, and the local riding talent shows it. Shallow flats, overhead waves or huge downwinders; Corpus is a kiter's town.
THE KITING Dream thermals operate at this spot on the Texas coast - let's just say the trees don't get the chance to grow straight here. Corpus is perfect for learning and lessons with shallow warm water and very consistent winds, allowing fast and controlled progress, but there is something for everyone, from shallow flat water that works in any wind condition, over head waves and 20-mile downwinders. A fantastic ten mile bay area has become very popular with 'kite sailors' who ride for miles and hours at a time. Talk to a local before your first big journey so you know where to head should a problem arise. If you're a beginner booties are recommended for protection against small shells or hermit crabs that move around on the sandy bottom. Most riders ride barefoot, though.
WATER, WIND AND WEATHER The main windy season for Texas is October to May. The dominant direction is from the east, but good days can see the wind come in from all directions. Air temps rise up from 18°C / 65°F in the winter to 32°C / 90°F in July. The water is beautifully warm; 20°C / 70°F in the winter and 26°C / 80°F in the summer.
