LOCAL KNOWLEDGE: Geneva-Cointrin and Zurich-Kloten airports are fully integrated into the Swiss railroad network, have their own railway stations and are roughly 150 kilometres from the spot. Sion, Basle-Mulhouse and Bern airports have bus connections to the city centres every 10 to 20 minutes, with a travelling time of approximately 10 minutes. You have to take the train to Brig, then a bus to the Simplon Monte Leone. Public buses go to ski resorts that are reachable in roughly 20 minutes. There is a tourist information centre at the station in Brig, which is the closest town to Simplon. Only one hire car company operates from there, so best to hire from the airport if you're hiring. There is one basic hotel with a restaurant called Monte Leone directly next to the snowkiting spot in Simplon, but there are no bars. It has a nice, small sauna to relax in the evening, though! In the small town Brig you will find a few bars to go for a drink as well as good restaurants and more accommodation. The area is relatively small but you will find enough to entertain you when you are not in the slopes. You'll have as much fun as when you go out with your mates at home or play a bit of PartyPoker. But you have the added bonus of snow! The best nightlife is in Zermatt.
NON-KITING KICKS: Good ski resorts such as Belalp and Aletsch are close to Brig and are very family friendly. On Simplon itself there's sledding, snow trekking and a small ski lift for skiing, snowboarding, snow trekking, husky tours, sledding, tandem paragliding flights. Find hot springs in Leukerbad and sleep in an igloo in Zermatt.
POCKET MONEY: CURRENCY: Swiss Franc (CHF) - £1 = CHF1.5 / €1 = CHF1.4 / $1 = CHF1. AVEREGE COST OF A BEER IN A BAR = CHF4.5. AVERAGE RESTAURANT MEAL (no alcohol) =CHF15 - 30. AVERAGE HOTEL = CHF85 - 120.
