KITEWORLD ISSUE #70 - SUBSCRIBE TO WIN A LIQUID FORCE SOLO KITE
Foils have been used by kitesurfers for over a decade, however the improvements in their design and performance on the race course in the last 12 months have been most emphatic. Even wakestylers are taking a break from their tricks to enjoy the futuristic feeling of floating over the water. Coming up in issue 70 we celebrate all that we're riding in 2014, from carbon foils to razor sharp speed boards, and we look to the future impact that foils in particular will have on the speed and racing worlds.
In an issue that is stitched together along a common thread of daring designs we honour the Ocean Rodeo Mako, a rounded freeride board with an extremely deep concave. It's hasn't changed very much since 2002, but after 12 seasons it has built up an incredibly loyal fan base of quiver builders who kitesurf in real world conditions. Some fanatics own a few different models, others have simply held on to their favourite board since riding the first one. We look at the riding experience offered by the Mako and why it has built up such a core and passionate following.
Speaking of riding experiences, we discover how kitesurfing has helped a young rider from Florida control his OCD behaviour, how a lady in her sixties is overtaking the boys at her local spot and why a hardcore heli-ski guide has added a kite to his list of most important tools.
Packing their usual punch are regular columns from Aaron Hadlow and Mark Shinn. These Things I Know returns in the hands of Airush board designer and MD Clinton Filen, we look at Tarifa as a classic autumn destination and we review a few new items on the light wind block, including the Liquid Force Solo, Naish Fly, Shinn Speedball and more. Brandon Scheid continues his instructional feature taking you towards the hooked and unhooked tail grab front roll, Patri McLaughlin steps up your wave game and we further cram the issue with Sessions, new products, galleries, interviews and insight from around the kiting world.
