SELECTED RIDER #03: SAM LIGHT
LIVES: Hayling Island, UK
YEARS KITING: 6
SPECIALITY: Wake-style and progressive kiting, taking influence from cable wakeboarding in order to push kiting to its limit
BEST RESULTS: 9th PKRA Venezuela, 2nd Core Slider Jam, current leader in the 2009 BKSA Freestyle Championship
SPONSORS: Naish International, O'Neill
Sam started kiting back in 2003 and, after taking all his early inspiration from videos of top riders in kiting and wakeboarding, competed in his first junior BKSA event in 2004. From there Sam has progressed rapidly and unsuprisingly has been snapped up by two big brands in the form of Naish International and O'Neill (maybe you've heard of them?). This has allowed him to compete in international events around the world after only just finishing school earlier this year.
Sam's focus is on helping kitesurfing evolve over the next five or ten years to similar levels as skateboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding, which he states “look amazing and have such individual styles.” With Sam but one of a young breed of super kiters on the case today it's great to see that Kitesurfing is in such safe hands for the future.
Sam speaks highly of White Air saying, “White Air is going to be really important for the sport and is such a great way of promoting what we do. I'm looking forward to really showing the public how cool it is.” And by 'public' he means you. So make sure you don't miss out on this years must-see extreme sports event.
