This week sees English, Spanish and French teams recreate the Battle Of Trafalgar with a twist. Taking place in Spain at the same location as the original battle in 1805, the "Red Bull Battle of Trafalgar" takes the form of a kitesurf battle between the three countries involved competing in two disciplines:
- Freestyle Battle Pro Contest.
- Race Open Contest.
The best riders will meet on the anniversay of the event at the Cape of Trafalgar, the original location where the Battle Of Trafalgar happened 200 years ago. It's time to take revenge on history!
Each country will choose 1 captain from his side, a Red Bull athlete. This captain will handpick 5 officers as crew. The rest of the army will be chosen from the remaining entrants. Each team will build their own strategy to win.
The UK Team is being headed up by Aaron Hadlow and you can show your support and help us beat France and Spain in the process by going to the offical "Red Bull Battle of Trafalgar" site and clicking "Join in" to become a Sailor.
Every captain will choose which rider competes in each round. Then he must build a strategy to win the round. Overall points from all rounds will decide the winner.
This is an open race and any skilled kiter can participate by registering on the website. Kiters regardless of their nationality, can enroll in any of the teams. Riders must kiteboard around the cape to the checkpoint, take a doubloon and go back to the start / finish line to complete the race.
The first 10 kiters finishing from each country count at the finish. The recorded race time from each countries team counts and the team with the lowest overall time win.
Kiters can sign up for the competition at www.redbullbatalladetrafalgar.com. Here they can enlist to take part in "Red Bull Batalla de Trafalgar" as a rider, supporting their country and captain in the race.
