On a beautiful, extremely hot and sunny day one in Hua Hin, Thailand, competitors made their way to the beach for the mandatory skippers meeting at 12:00pm in hopes that the wind would pick up enough to commence the freestyle qualifier or racing disciplines.
Most of the top named PKRA World Tour riders have arrived in Hua Hin where they could be found roaming the beautiful white sand beach. The wind began to pick up around 4:00pm and a few of the pro riders such as Andy Yates, Mario Rodwald, Cesar Portas, Alvaro Onieva and Karolina Winkowska were out on their 13m and 14m kites testing the conditions for the upcoming World Cup events beginning on Monday.
The governor along with important VIP guests attended the opening ceremony of the 2011 Hua Hin Kiteboard Qualifier event. A total of two races were successfully completed where Heikki Gross from Estonia finished in first place in both races. Rajko Vodisek from Russia finished second in the first race while Chanon (Jack) Phrakaew from Thailand finished second in the second race. Mod Chanchan from Thailand took third place in both of the races today. Ramona Serea from Romania took the lead for the women finishing first in both races while Fon Jentawan from Thailand finished closely behind in second.
The forecast the following days look very promising. Tomorrow’s mandatory skipper’s meeting is set yet again for 12:00pm.
