Rabbit Gang Tour, 27 July, Brighton, UK
We were hoping for the best Tuesday afternoon, as the rest of the KW team prepared to meet the Wainman crew at Lancing Beach. Mag editor Jim Gaunt had been with the Rabbit Tour guys all morning, taking them to the Surface 2 Air store in Hove for some signings and product talks. Assistant Ed Ash Phelps had been manning the office and checking the outlook for wind in the afternoon - things weren't looking too good.
Before setting off to the beach, the Wainman crew made a stop at Kiteworld HQ to see 'where the magic happens' and to do some signings for us. A few prized items have already made their way up on the KW wall, others we'll be giving away in our series of regular competitions. More will be announced on this soon.
And so, at nearing 3pm to Lancing we headed. Failing any wind, we had planned to get the Wainman guys on the beach for some more signings and product talks for the people who had made it down. Word had spread quickly though and before long five time world champ Aaron Hadlow, Neal Hilder and Lewis Crathern had decided to pay a visit. The pressure was on and pretty soon murmurs under the breath for wind became full on chants and prayers. And luckily as we all arrived on the beach, our prayers were answered.
The conditions had picked up more than enough to get on the water and were looking pretty tasty. Lou Wainman, Franz Olry and Niccolo Porcella jumped at the chance to get people out on the Wainman gear, and happily went through some demos, throwing down a few slick moves themselves in the process.
No surprises that Hadlow, Hilder and Crathern all wanted in on the action and it wasn't long before Lancing Beach had become filled with the cream of the crop of kiting talent. We said opportunities like this wouldn't come along often, and we weren't lying.
The UK leg of the Wainman European tour had been a complete success. Later that evening we capped things off with a final dinner and some beers.
The next stop for the Wainman guys is Belgium. More information can be found at www.rabbitgangtour.com
