The 2011 North American Speed Sailing Invitational Day 8

Watch the video now of Day Eight on KITEWORLD TV
Words - Damien Leroy
Day 8:
Gale Force winds hit the Vineyard and the NASSI event. It was nothing but survival as riders hit the water in sideways rain and wind gusts up to 47 knots. The road was lined with spectators in awe of the worlds fastest sailors doing battle in 45 knots and 45 degree air temp. All riders were on kites ranging from 6 to 9 meters in size. As kites got destroyed and athletes got separated from there equipment due to gusts well beyond the normal! This day will go down in American speed sailing history as the fastest speed sailing competition in US waters. The speeds say it all: 50.99 knots average over 250 meters, and multiple V Max speeds at over 55 KNOTS..
With thaniks to Damien Leroy for keeping us posted
