The Kiteworld / White Air Slider Jam took place 18 - 20 September. A huge amount of work went into the build of the feature by Chris Burke, Tom Court and Stu Munns, all from the Isle of Wight. A star cast of eight riders were invited with the idea being to show the thousands of people that would come to this all-round extreme festival what kiteboarding is all about.
Sam Light, Tom Court, Chris Burke, Ruben Lenten, Davey Blair, Ali Barrett, Susi Mai and Lewis Crathern.
Sadly, the wind never showed, but we do now have a sweet kicker/slider that we're going to session somewhere windy soon. The idea with having a slider was that the riders would still be able to put on a display and show just how much of a crossover in skills there is between kiteboarding and wakeboarding now by pulling into the feature behind a jet-ski.
Unfortunately Ruben had injured his hand two days before the event and arrived with a fresh set of stitches stopping him hitting the water (but didn't seem to hold him back when handling the beers). Davey Blair rode with his usual vigor and aggression until he tweaked a muscle in his upper arm halfway through Saturday and Lewis and Susi were understandably only up for it with a kite. The angle of the up-ramp was incredible and caught a few riders out in the early sessions.
Sam Light was voted winner by every other riders in the rider judged format for his consistent, clean tricks. Ramp builders Tom Court and Chris Burke pulled out second and third respectively.
