Wainman Hawaii Team Hit the UK 22 - 27 July
Over the last couple of years Wainman Hawaii have collected a team of riders that have all played their part in changing the way we look at kiteboarding over time.
Lou Wainman is probably the most iconic rider the sport has seen so far, opening up our eyes to how wakestyle would inspire so many riders to develop a powered, unhooked riding style that we see all over the competition circuits today.
Bertrand Fleury is the French powerhouse who moved to Maui and stamped his authority all over kite beach with, among other things, his explosive F-16s. The first time Chris Tronolone caught him sending his kite looping way underneath him, thrusting him through the sky like a bullet, we all knew that there were so many things we were yet to understand about kite handling. After a long spell chasing down the best waves in the world, he is having somewhat of a freestyle renaissance since switching to Wainman.
Niccolo Porcella was the first hot grom, paving the way for all the others. Growing up surrounded by the hardcore wakestyle crew and their antics at Kite Beach, he more than held his own on the water and dropped jaws with his natural ability. He was also the first rider to ever get back-to-back covers on Kiteworld, with issues #44 and #45.
Franz Olry understood what kitesurfing needed so early on, and is widely credited with the invention of the twin-tip. He's still probably one of the most fluid and exciting kiteboarders to watch and can do it all. If you think you ride fast, come and watch Franz!
So the whole team will be in the UK as part of the European tour. They will be in Poole from the Thursday 22nd - Sunday 25th. On Monday 26th they will be heading to us in Brighton, stopping off at Bracklesham Boardriders on the way (www.brackleshamboardriders.co.uk). We will be running a demo event with them on Monday afternoon and from noon on Tuesday 27th July at Lancing Beach. If the weather permits, we'll probably knock up a barbie and test the boys burger flipping skills, as they surely get more practice than us!
