Welsh kitesurfer, Kirsty Jones is poised to win the Kitesurf World Wave Masters, following a resounding win in Ceara, Brazil in the penultimate round of the Kiteboard Pro World Tour (KPWT) at the weekend. The victory means Kirsty now leads the Wave World Masters with 3689 points and puts her in prime position to win the world championship; the final of which takes place at the world class wave spot of Moulay, near Essaouira in Morocco from 1st-9th of November 2008.
The conditions in Brazil for the final heat of the women's wave event were consistent winds blowing side shore at 18 knots with small waves. Kirsty rode on her Flexifoil Ion 3, 8.5m and a Jimmy Lewis and Jof Owen directional surfboard. Kirsty reflects on her latest victory in the KPWT Wave tour; 'Its been a long week with 6.30 am skippers meetings every morning and long days in the intense sun with some tough heats against the top girls from all over the world but finally I have achieved what I came here for. I came a week early to train hard and test some new boards in the conditions here and managed to push my riding to another level which gave me the confidence I needed for the competition.' She continues; 'I am really excited about the final in Morocco as its one of my favourite countries to kitesurf and there is a good chance that there will be some impressive quality waves to ride there which means the girls will have a chance to show what they can do in bigger waves!'
