Mitu - right place, right time
With the freestyle titles tied up by Jesse Richman and Ania Grzelinska the Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup moved to Moulay Bouzarktoune. On the agenda, the semi finals and finals of the Wave Masters and eight riders contesting in the line up.

Ania Grzelinska from Poland started against Céline Collaud from Switzerland in the women's. Ania, KPWT freestyle champion, had no problem winning the heat as Céline doesn't specialise in waves. The following heat saw Kari Schibevaag from Norway come up against the UK's Kirsty Jones. Kari has definitely improved a lot since Brazil but it wasn't enough to threaten Kirsty who made very good wave selection throughout and really optimised the potential of the waves.

Over to the men and Abel Lago from Spain took on Mitu Monteiro from Cabo Verde (featured in Introducing in Kiteworld issue #35 ). Mitu was really on top form and set the mirky ocean alight. Radical and powerful, he caught better waves than Abel who performed a very good heat but just couldn't quite find enough performance. Mitu advanced to the final.

In the men's second semi final Jesse Richman from Hawaii met Jan Marcos Riveras from the Dominican Republic. Jesse was very aggressive, powerful and radical. With the pressure of the title on his shoulders, Jan Marcos, already world champion, seemed to be less confident. As usual he offered a great show but he was not at his highest level. Jesse advanced to  the winner's final.

Back to the women's third place final and it was Céline Collaud versus Kari Schibevaag. Kari has made huge progress this season and Céline isn't a wave rider at heart. Kari won quite easily and finished in the third place.

The women's final was pure delight of a wave riding session: Ania Grzelinska versus Kirsty Jones. Both competitors were amazing and performed at a very high level. Nevertheless Kirsty remained closer to the critical section of the wave while Ania kept finding herself too far in front of it. Two amazing competitors but the congratulations wen to Kirsty Jones who won the Wave Masters competition. (Want to see more of Kirsty? Click here to go to her profile in our rider's pages.)

In the men's third place final Abel Lago faced Jan Marcos Riveras. Abel has been training very hard since Brazil and used the Moulay waves well and attacked them with good style. Jan Marcos ran a better heat than his last, but his performance still didn't convince the judges. Abel got the not and finished in third for the event.

The final saw the level of riding go through the roof with Jesse Richman and Mitu Monteiro. Jesse was unlucky however, crashing his kite in the middle of the heat, wasting precious time. Meanwhile Mitu showed perfect skills and performed “la crème de la crème” of wave riding, using as much as much potential of each wave as he could. The final decision was easy: Mitu Monteiro, winner of the Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup Wave Masters, and Mitu was also announced as the overall wave master for the men's! Congratulations to him.
