The first Cyprus Kitesurfing Championships – King of Kite 2013 was proudly presented by the Larnaca Kiteboarding Club at Kahuna Surfhouse in Mazotos, Larnaca on 11th August.
The Kahuna Team was ready to welcome 2009 World Kitesurfing Champion & Naish team rider Kevin Langeree who flew to Cyprus to make a special appearance as a guest judge. A huge crowd of 1,500 enthusiasts and spectators arrived at Kahuna where the perfect conditions provided a backdrop for some awesome action throughout the day. Over fifty Kitesurfers from around the island registered for the slalom and freestyle competitions for men and women revealing the talent that already exists in this relatively new sport on the island. Twelve DJs created a fantastic party vibe for the crowd and Kevin finally crowned Antonis Anthimiades from Limassol as the first King of Kite.
Kevin Langeree was the highlight of the event and completed an amazing day by demonstrating what it takes to be a world champion kitesurfer. He walked on water and he flew in the sky executing crazy tricks for an awe-struck crowd. In his words, “I had such a great weekend here on Cyprus! Met a lot of cool people, the 'king of kite' was a success and everyone was stoked on the demo I did.”
Elias Mantovanis of Kahuna Surfhouse said, “Cyprus is now on the Kitesurfing map at last and Kahuna Surfhouse is already planning fun times for the second King of Kite 2014!!”
