Kite Babes - this second international kite camp dedicated to women will take place 12 - 15 June 2014 at Hang Loose Beach in Gizzeria.
Last year's event involved up to 30 girls of all ages, from different European countries such as France, England, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, and Italy. The camp was a 'full immersion' week dedicated to kitesurfing - not solely developed with the intention of bringing women into this wonderful sport, but also to create the appropriate element of socialising, bonding and indeed fun between the participants.
In the first four days a basic course dedicated to beginners was held, while during the final three days there was the advanced course for further development of the three disciplines of freestyle, race and wave.
The participants had the opportunity to learn and improve their kitesurfing, being taught by three athletes of international repute: Jalou Langeree, Kari Schibevaag and Alice Brunacci.
The event had all the ingredients for success: the regular and constant thermal wind in the Gulf of Gizzeria, the location of Hang Loose Beach, the professionalism of the three international athletes and the enthusiasm of the Kite Babes.
Activities began each day at 10am with the skippers' meeting when teachers Jalou, Kari and Alice outlined the daily schedule. After the briefing, there was time for an exchange of words and a few laughs and then the participants were ready to go into the water and focus on achieving the day's goals, such as glide for novices or new manoeuvres for the more experienced, with the guidance and supervision of great instructors.
The activities were interrupted by a short lunch-break which doubled as a debriefing for students on the morning's activities. The kitesurfing continued until 1700 and then everybody could relax with a cocktail in front of a breathtaking sunset. The whole week was composed not only of sports, but also fun.
When the sun set the girls would prepare for a trip to discover local Calabrian delicacies or to possibly have a campfire under the stars with dancing late into the night. At the end of the evening everyone went off to bed in the Hang Loose Beach VW T1 Village - a unique community of tents that faithfully mimicks the Volkswagen T1 van, right in the resort just a few steps from the sea. Everything here was created to be together and Hang Loose Beach was the perfect location to achieve this goal.
For years now Hang Loose Beach has been the scene of important events in the sport of International Kite and has become one of the top destinations in Europe, not only for the thermal wind that blows constantly from April to September and for its vast beaches and freedom but also for its liveliness and for the comprehensive and excellent organisation that meets the needs of everyone: families, couples and singles.
The restaurant, disco bar, sunbathing beach with all facilities, a children's area, tennis, beach volleyball and street basketball allows everyone to spend a completely relaxing and fun-filled holiday. The enormous success and involvement of last year's Kite Babes laid the foundations for a new experience for women that will be held from 12 to 15 June 2014.
