First Vietnamese Winner on the KTA
It was only a matter of time before Vietnam with its wealth of demanding and regular kitesurfing conditions began to produce competition winners. Long Nguyen Duc became the first at the KTA Indo in February.
Vietnam is home to some very popular kitesurfing spots, visited by tens of thousands of kiteboarders every year. They also now have a growing number of ripping local riders, who coming to the fore with the rise of the Kiteboard Tour Asia. The KINN team are based out of Vietnam and are set up to help local riders have more opportunities and realise more of their potential... which seems to be working with 20-year-old Long Nguyen Duc claiming the first event win for both the KINN team and Vietnam at the first KTA even in Indonesia at the end of February.
Here are some brief highlights from the double elimination finals:
Going into the double elimination round, K!NN Team freestyler, 20 year old Long Nguyen Duc, was nervous to defeat his title. Realizing it meant he would most likely either go up again Yo Pudla from Thailand again or Taner Aykurt from Turkey, depending on how the semi-finals played out, his anxiety was high.
As the semi-finals began it was Taner versus Reynard Along Gajisan from Philippines. Taner cruised through this heat making it look easy, a heat he had lost the day before. As Taner advanced on to compete against Yo Pudla, nervousness grew amongst the K!NN Team. Unfortunately Yo's kite crashed and took a while to relaunch, insuring Taner's winn while he continued to continue to kill it with perfection. Taner advanced into the finals against Long. It was a close heat with the judges taking a long, careful look at the score cards before deciding the winner - the longest decision of the day. In the end it was Long's powered front mobes, back mobes, kiteloop slim chance and KGB's which earned him his victory!
Smiles and cries of joy were heard from the crowd all around. A first for Vietnam, a first for K!NN Team!
Go Long! Go Strong!
