Davey's mum bought him his first kite after graduating from high school and he's never looked back.
'I grew up surfing and skating so kiting came as a good extension to my board riding and just made sense.'
After saving money from selling fire wood he moved to Cabarete in the Dominican Republic ? just out of school he was living his dream, surfing in the morning and kiting every afternoon for five months. At the end of his stay he'd progressed so much that he picked up sponsorship from Gaastra kites. A good result at the huge Velocity Games in the US soon followed and his career flourished.
'I'm not a contest rider though. Timed heats in the sport just don't do it for me. There is so much you can do with a kite and so many different boards you can ride. All-encompassing freeride events like the Triple-S in North Carolina, USA, is where I see contest riding going for the sport, showcasing three of the best disciplines: surf, sliders and slicks. Riding with a smile on your face in a relaxed and positive environment ? what better way to show off the sport! White Air should be amazing and a great opportunity to enlighten other board riders to the possibilities a kite can offer. My goal is to make kiteboarding what it will be ten years from today. Sponsored or not, I will kite till I die.'
