BKSA, Kiteival Barrow, Aug 6th-8th
The pros got on the water at 12pm on the Friday with their 9m kites. There was strong cross off south easterly wind with a lovely bit of drizzle to keep people fresh. There were some small kickers and some big moves being nailed, and also some spectacular wipeouts. The rain eventually cleared with the wind dropping to a south westerly direction. Riders switched kites up to 12 and 14m, with the most experienced riders still being able to show off their skills in the light wind.
Ali Barrett landed the top spot for the men's freestyle, followed by North West local Luke Whiteside and then Ned Taylor.
On the Saturday riders were up and going by 11am enjoying wind speeds of up to 25 knots!
21 racers competed head to head on the two lap course over eight races throughout the day. North Rep Callum Edge came out on top ahead of the Cornish duo of Denzil Williams and Lee Harvey.
Large crowds flocked to see the land competitions as riders spun and looped there way over the hard pack sands of Earnse Bay. The ladies showed great skill and bravery in the increasing winds – Karen Cartlidge took the win in the Buggy section while pro kitesurfer Sukie Robertson took the honours in the Landboarding.
The Men’s buggy saw some huge moves being thrown down with an all star Flexifoil ensomble in the final. Craig Sparkes took the win ahead of Dave Roberts and last years champ Will Mckean in third.
Ash Garwood pulled out all the stops to take the win in the men's landboard event with Steve Smith taking second and Daniel Smith in third.
The Juniors saw three riders compete. Greg Chilton competing in both water and land on the same kite and taking the win ahead of Tom Ford and Robbie Shire Maidement.
In the freestyle comp there were some great riding in all fleets. Marcus Hawkins stood out from the crowd, killing it in the final. He was also the winner of the biggest move of the weekend!
Sam Bell put on a consistent run of heats to win the youths with Danielle Durrant doing the same for the ladies. Richard Jones saw off Dave Williamsin in the seniors with Callum Asquith piping Robbie Shire-Maidment to the post in the juniors.
