Last weekend Kirsty Jones won the kitesurf World Wave Champion title, following a resounding win at the final round of the Kiteboard Pro World Tour (KPWT) in Essaouira, Morocco.

The tour final took place at the world class wave spot of Moulay, just outside of Essaouira in classic wind and wave conditions. Kirsty rode with her Flexifoil Ion 3 8.5m and an SDF custom made surfboard.

Reflecting on achieving the World Wave Championship title, she said; ‘It’s been an amazing year for me doing the KPWT world tour.  Last year I missed out on the title by a small margin and this year I was determined to become world champion – this is my dream come true.’

‘The final in Morocco was by far the toughest for me as I put so much pressure on myself to win this final event.  Morocco is a special country and one of my favourite places to kite and surf and it lived up to expectations providing us with perfect conditions for the week’s competition.’

The Morocco event was the culmination of the 10th year of the Kiteboard Pro World Tour which also visited France, Portugal and Brazil during the year.

ImageKirsty’s plans for 2009 are to return to defend her world title as well as organising another long distance solo kitesurf for charity and running kite and yoga retreats throughout the year in some of her favourite locations worldwide.
