HIGHLIGHTS THIS ISSUE INCLUDE

Finding foiling for eternal happiness with Jason Gallate

Occasional neuroscience columnist Dr Jason Gallate returns this issue as he breaks down the process of neural adaptation for us. In simple terms, he explains how happiness happens, why people get sad and why increased water time could well be the key to everlasting joy! He also points out why the foil is your go-to weapon for massively increasing your session tally – and we’re inclined to agree with him!

The Alternative African experience

James Boulding has been travelling the globe searching for ideal conditions for years. First it was as an instructor, then as a pro rider and now as the marketing and team manager for Cabrinha. There are few kite spots he hasn’t visited, but he recently added a new stamp to his passport when he travelled to Kenya for the first time to discover a largely untapped jewel on the East African kite map. Find out what you didn’t know you were missing in KW #93.

Into Twin Galaxies

It doesn’t matter if you’re packing your van to try out your local spot in a new wind direction or heading off on an overseas trip – kiting is always an adventure. Some adventures trump others though, and in KW #93 we follow the story of Ben, Boomer and Sarah who travelled 1000 kilometres across Greenland by kite so that they could be the first people in history to paddle a remote river deep in the Greenlandic wilderness. And yes – they had to drag their kayaks with them! Stirring stuff for your inner adventurer.

TESTING

We continue our summer test series with reams of reviews this issue. There’s everything from twintip to surfboard, harness and wetsuit tests as well a stack of kite reviews including our updated appraisal of the 2018 North Evo, North’s ultra-accessible all-terrain freeride beast.

The ever-popular Airush Lithium, Airush’s long-running entry level kite that packs plenty of performance for the advanced rider, also makes a welcome reappearance and so too does the RRD Passion – a kite guaranteed to provide light wind summer freeride fun!

We also have an in-depth review of the Core Nexus which our test team recently got to grips with in Cape Verde. This one’s a game changer – a freestyle / wave hybrid that could well be the answer to your prayers for a one-kite solution!

TECHNIQUE

Steven Akkersdijk brings yet more trick-spiration as he talks us through the inverted backroll grab and Sensi Graves is on hand with some tools to help you sharpen up your mental game for improved performance out on the water!

KW’s Matt Pearce also weighs in with some thoughts on why you might want to think about investing in some kite coaching to really unlock your true potential.

REGULARS

You’ll find the same informed opinions and in-depth commentary from our columnists, captivating imagery and the latest news from around the world as well as behind-the-scenes action from the competition circuit and more besides!
