Kiteworld Issue 27This issue is available FREE Online

This issue, it's all about keeping it simple. While the rest of the kiting world went off to discover the benefits of implementing an extra line or a flatter canopy profile, Felix Pivec stuck hard and fast to his trusty four-line C kite and has developed a wave-riding style that commands respect. His set-up is as basic as they come but the high-performance result is unquestionable. Read all about why Felix believes that keeping it simple is the secret to his success.
This issue we also head south down the long, dusty road from California to Baja, a place that offers you a huge amount as a rider, but also demands much from your vehicle to actually make the whopping, often treacherous drive, mostly without the option of a single visit to a fuel station. Camping under the stars and surviving only on the rations you were prepared to bring with you heightens the whole experience, prolonging the natural buzz that runs riot inside of us while we're on the water. Peter Trow explains why this journey back to basics is such a rewarding one.
We also take you down more roads of questionable quality in Morocco. Essaouira was the venue for our latest batch of testing and this peaceful town in the centre of Morocco's Atlantic coast is home not only to some of the best riding you could wish for, but also one of the most humble, welcoming cultures that any of us had experienced. We offer you a taste for the real Moroccan delicacy.
Accompanying the test team to Morocco were six kites ? the Airush Vapor, the Slingshot Turbo 2, Flexifoil Ion 2, Takoon enova, Ozone Instinct Light and the F-One Impact SL. There were also four surfboards: the Takoon Burning 5'1', Surftech Stretch Rat Boy 5'6', Xelerator Epic 5'8' and the Liquid Force 5'8'. Get the low down on each of them in this issue.
And of course number 27 wouldn't be complete without the usual lashings of technique. On the education side of business we cover the fundamentals and benefits of good body position, heel-side carves and the Motor Drive project looks at the progression from the basic back loop through to the mobe 5. In the waves, Ben Wilson tackles the favoured strategy for taming waves riding back-side.
All this and of course the best shots from the best photographers, news, gossip, interviews, opinions and lots, lots more...
