INTRO - Live the dream with just one board for all your wakestyle needs - and we're not just looking at wakestyle boards, these are models specifically designed to be ridden at the cable as well:
Axis are offering two pro models in cable specific versions with 'cable park rockers' to provide the same refined ride feel as the kite-designed models at the cable. The Tranq (Alex Lewis-Hughes pro model) and the Parker Pro (Billy Parker) have a double row of inserts to hold boots down better and to spread the load more. Petex materials used on skis and snowboards provide strength and scratches can be filled in with a petex gun. Tough plastic topsheets, solid ABS rails, paulownia wood core and 600gsm triaxial fibreglass laminates provide stacks of durability, response and fantastic damping.
SIZES: TRANQ: 141 x 43 PARKER PRO: 140 x 42.5cm
For committed wakestylers the Profanity returns with Best's all-new construction and the most complex base design Best have ever built into a board. Full step rails stiffen the board without adding weight, quad channels provide massive amounts of grip and the option of riding finless or with the new low profile 25mm G-10 fins. The double concave works with the rocker to smooth out the mid-section for reduced drag, more lift and early planing while retaining the deep rocker stability. The bottom sheet and ABS rails are bullet-proof and the new sizes are tailored specifically towards the wakeboard market. Inline inserts reinforced with beech wood blocks ensure strength for those needing the strongest, lightest platform.
SIZES: 141 x 43 and 137 x 42cm
New this year is The Custom CBL (Carbon Basalt Laminate) version for the totally dedicated high-performance wakestyle rider. Designed with the most extreme rocker, outline, bottom shaping and exotic materials in the Cabrinha 2014 line, whether you throwdown on the kite or at the cable, the Custom CBL's basalt fibre material composition provides excellent pop and resilience on flat water or obstables. Carbon reinforcements, huge pop, slider proof, smooth ride in choppy waters - what more could you want?
SIZES: 144 x 43, 140 x 42.5, 136 x 42 and 133 x 40cm
The Nuke is a dedicated wakestyle board with double concave channels in the centre and four sharp V-shaped ridges in the tips to allow for finless performance, plus the bullet proof Kevlar construction and extra layer of multiaxial fibreglass make it the ultimate board for all wake experiences. Enjoy better downwind pop, improved pop off wave kickers and easier high speed landings from the new rocker line, while the progressive flex tips and bottom shape provide extra whip for load and pop tricks.
SIZES: 140 x 43, 137 x 42 and 134 x 41cm
The Hadlow Wakestyle is Aaron's day-in, day out ride with its smooth cut through chop, comfortable ride and fast, aggressive performance. Maximising grip and optimising water flow, the channel system in the base completely locks in when edging, but is also loose and forgiving when flattened off. The deep, strong quad concave adds overall speed and grip. Shaped with more rocker than the average kiteboard, but less than conventional wakeboards, it's easier to get planing behind a kite and gives perfect balance at the cable, too. Stiffer and thicker than a kiteboard, it's very strong across the deck and with more volume for quicker planing and less unwanted flex between your feet. The outline tapers off towards the tips for more flex and explosive pop. Inserts are reinforced with wood and topped with a carbon layer above and beneath.
SIZES: 138 x 43cm
The Spicy is F-One's first all-out uncompromising wakestyle board, uniquely shaped for riding in bindings with explosive pop, control and durability. Double concave sections direct water flow as much as possible for superb grip and during landings water is directed out, making touchdowns smoother and more stable. Lifted tip channels provide better grip towards the tip of the board and greater efficiency during pop. The three stage rocker is very curved between the feet for riding comfort and further aids good landings.
SIZE: 138 x 42cm
The Antic has a low flex, ideal for medium speed, hitting kickers, sliders and riding hard. A three stage rocker eats chop, is forgiving and yet aggressive. Axial and torsional axis stiffness aids control and 3D step rails provide solid grip. Internal features include a heavy duty pop wood core, impact reinforcement zones and full length carbon top and bottom layers. A deep double channel and trapeszoidal skid plates add grip for finless riding, while the flat centre section to V tips make for easy sliding and the base is sintered and scratch resistant.
SIZES: 142 x 43 and 139 x 42.5cm
The 50Fifty Wake features a multi-channel construction, durable slider-proof base, reinforced edges, aggressive rocker line and wide stance options in a stable, solid, durable, high-performance wakeboard, designed for use at the cable or behind a boat. Also packing massive pop behind a kite, it contains Nobile's best technology also employed in their kiteboards, such as the hydrodynamic rockerline, extruded base, wood core, complete antivibration, pre-stress technology and 3D shaping.
SIZE: 138 x 43cm
Designed with input from Tom Court and Craig Cunningham the Gambler makes another comeback as North's cable cross-over board. Smooth wakestyle riding comes from an easy-to-use rocker and flex that work in harmony with the outline to perform no matter how hard you want to push your riding. Deep rails combine with the wake bottom for unsurpassed grip allowing you to ride with or without the 3.5cm fins. Built for wakestyle abuse with North's slick base construction.
SIZES: 142 x 42.5, 139 x 42 and 136 x 41.5cm
INTRO - What sort of crazy fool would want to go and split their twin-tip in half? Apparently the types of crazy fools that like to travel light on flights and don't want to have to travel with a quiver bag; players who ride motorbikes or drive sportscars and don't want to have to sacrifice one toy for another and commuters who use buses or trains. From the inner city dweller to the international jet setting executive, there just could be something in these designs for many kiteboarders. And we're assured that no performance reputation was hurt in the making of these models. We'll be jumping on one soon, but if your practical needs outweight your performance needs, these are surely just the ticket!
The FlySplit has been through three years of testing and manufacturing development, helped by the switch to their new factory in Europe, to ensure both comfort and high performance are achieved. The splitting construction is very simple, the zig zag shape joining easily together and needs only be fixed with a metal splint on both sides. A full wood core is used in the centre and edges for durability and dynamic performance while a light foam construction in the less-stressed areas saves unnecessary weight. Coming in two sizes, offering great all-round performance the FlySplit M has the high performance of the FlyRadical and the L is suited more to heavier riders or those looking for lightwind performance and has an eight centimetre centre fin on the heelside rail.
SIZES: 160 x 44 and 134 x 41cm
Nobile have gone to town on this splitboard concept and it seems like once they started going for the split they just couldn't stop, offering three models from their line that come in two! Using a W-connection
The NHP freeride board has an increased flex pattern to the one-piece model and is 20% softer for extra comfort and a super relaxing ride but still packs freestyle performance.
SIZES: 137 x 44 and 134 x 42cm
The Flying Carpet also comes in two, ensuring that even gear for the lightest of winds will still fit in your partner's little roadster when they come and pick you up from a downwinder!
SIZES: 160 x 46cm
Completing the range of riding styles covered by Nobile's split offerings is the Infinity surfboard, which is really where the big savings will come on air travel. More on the Infinity next issue.
SIZES: 5'9'' x 19''
The ReSolve features a unique connecting joint system constructed for the most rugged conditions. A wood core is reinforced by carbon fibre and the strength of the join comes from the material embedded into the core, providing strength and flex while under the duress of the most extreme tricks, and was tested under 300kg / 661lbs of pressure at the Aerospace Research Institute in Praque, Czech Republic, showing no signs of damge. Soft tips keep the board smooth in chop, plus there's a dynamic rocker with 5mm concave, ABS sidewalls and the boards come with a special bag for travel and with pockets for accessories.
SIZE: 135 x 42cm
