TEST TEAM NOTES:
If you’re building the perfect quiver to have the right board for all conditions then you should have a Maquina in your line-up. A classic of example of a performance shape that excels in its element but is a little more tricky to ride out of its comfort zone. An absolutely stunning looking board, light weight and yet assuring you in its feel that it’s very strong. The Maquina is also the stiffest and also quickest board here. It’s not overly technical to ride in general and sits nicely on top of the water, but it’s definitely more tippy than an intermediate would be used to, but when you put pressure on your front foot it has a wonderful switch up of gears and provides enourmous speed and drive. As able to make wide, consistent bottom turns as it is to tighten up and then fang out a snap at the top of the wave with good technique, the Maquina is an absolute weapon, no doubt. Although it does a good job of softening the ride out for a stiff board, it does become a bit of a handful in really windy, choppy conditions. However, if we’re measuring this review on the best memories locked in the brain banks, then many came from the Maquina on the less windy early morning sessions with decent head high waves and clean faces. It’s like a rocket ship. Everything clicks into place.
