|With a stack of pro riding talent signed to their label to consult, North have launched an uncompromising range of pro model boards for '09 to meet the needs of dedicated new school riders.
Sky Solbach, Cesar Portas, Mallory de la Villemarque and, of course, Jaime Herraiz (whose board we featured last issue) have all managed to get their points across to the designers to achieve their dream ride. The widths have been increased by two centimetres across the ranges in the middle to accommodate harder, faster and safer landings and have also increased the upwind performance. The winger tips have, however, remained almost the same as last year, delivering aggressive grip, more accessible pop and much higher top end speeds to initiate tricks. A new carbon light wood sandwich construction technique has been adapted for its excellent dampening properties, further enhanced by a stiff centre and soft, flexi tips. This results in a lot of comfort in the roughest chop while remaining responsive and aggressive.
So who will be your role model? The Sky 09 is the largest in the range, ideal for bigger guys looking for aggressive edge, pop and speed. The second largest is the Cesar 09 and is sized to match his powerhouse style. Again, it's fast, aggressive and likes to be ridden hard. The Mallory 09 is the next size down and is modelled on Mr. de la Villemarque's smooth style, but has more power, pop and control than last year. All the boards come with an additional stance option for bindings.
There is also a Young Blood board available, which is smaller than the rest and aimed at really lightweight riders, and the new generation of grommets taking over this young and aggressive area of the sport.
