AIRUSH WAVE 6M

THE HYPE:
The Airush is the most athletic of the wave kites. Phenomenally quick in its reactions it flies almost as an extension of your body and there's a superb sensation of connectivity with the kite. Translated into down-the-line performance you have masses of control, with computer-game like playfulness allowing you to leave the Wave positioned and paused virtually anywhere in the window. A super thin leading edge keeps the kite driving forward but the control is like you've got a joy pad in your hands with the kite able to shift forwards, drop back ever so slightly with a pull on the bar and the fastest spin on test in any position in the window and has such poise that can steering it in a square, long and drawn out shape or super tightly to whip you along the line.

TEST TEAM NOTES:

If you're the kind of wave rider that really likes to throw your kite around the sky, enjoys a solid feeling at the bar with lots of feedback from the kite then this racing-car-like performance comes highly recommended. The Wave drives forward but maintains a very positive position in the window where it will hang back just enough for drifting thanks to the lightweight three strut design, but also gets to the front of the window when you come off the top. When at the front of the window the Wave still has lightening quick reactions to your next input. You do need to be on your game with this kite, but if you are  up to it, then it's very rewarding and using a knot lower on the back bridle line will slow the kite down a bit and provide a bit more balance for unhooked riding (at the expense of power and response though). Although incredibly fast and lively, it's stable in the sky and when you're getting rolled around in the white water it will sit and wait for you to come back up if you don't pull on the bar. The feedback always tells you where it is though, even when you're talking to the fish.

The bar system is relatively simple but functions as well as any other. No problems with sticky cleats here as Airush use a more traditional webbing strap with extenders that allow for plenty of throw at the bar. Neat and tidy for the most part, there is a bit of a dangle from a strap when you have the kite fully depowered. Loads of range on the throw, with the kite providing massive depower when sheeted out and a nice bit of drive when sheeted in. There is also a lot of power available through the rapid movements of the kite, so good pilots can get this six going nice and early with their skills rather than relying so heavily on pulling in on the bar. Below the bar is pretty spotless - great sized chicken-loop, good chicken-finger and super simple release and re-build mechanism, plus it self keys into the bar when unhooked. A nice unswiveller on top of the chicken-loop release works very well, although is smaller to grip than some.

KW LIKED:
The incredible feel of connectivity with the kite and its computer game like handling and  aggressive steering capabilities with just one hand.

KW WOULD CHANGE:
With lots of new quick inflation systems on the market, perhaps it would be nice to see Airush really finish things off nicely with their own version, but you can pump this six up in about five strokes anyway!
