THE LURE:

Sharm offers the perfect combination of high quality hotels right on site with all the resort facilities you'd expect from a popular hot spot. The airport is only a short taxi ride away and, being serviced by many airlines, you can get there any day of the week from all over Europe. A perfect choice for all level of kitesurfers, travelling alone or with non-kiting partners.

THE SET-UP:

The Nabq area is on the north side of Sharm El Sheikh, famous for its constant winds on the same coast line as Dahab. Kite Junkies have a couple of compressor stations to pump your kites and their beach staff will even lay out your lines! The lagoon is split into two areas with wind coming cross / cross-onshore from the left: Freeriders have a huge area directly in front of the launching and landing area, perfect for busting your latest moves in smooth, constant winds. Beginners use the huge area upwind and is where lessons take place in safety. For rookies and those not yet going upwind, there's plenty of practice space and you'll never be out of your depth. The launching area is right in front of the Kite Junkies centre. If you do find yourself in a tricky situation, or without your board, a member of the beach staff will assist you.

A 20 minute ride upwind will see you in a bay with moderate rolling waves getting up to single or double-head height. Suited to the more advanced rider wanting to get to grips with the waves, it's also great for boosting some big airs. Mostly sandy bottomed it's quite friendly as wave spots go, but your first time up there is always organised with an instructor. After a session you just downwind back to the flat water lagoon.

WIND, WATER AND WEATHER:

The wind direction is normally cross to cross-on and very smooth. The strongest and most consistent days are September to June. The winter months (Nov - Feb) see the wind lasting most of the day. May to September it's baking over there, often getting up to 38°C / 100°F in August, before gradually cooling down to around 23°C / 73°F in February. Bath water conditions from 19 - 28ºC / 66°F - 82°F. Bring your rubber duck.

GET AROUND:

Once in Sharm most opt for the traditional blue and white taxis for transport, larger groups can get the minibuses. Otherwise hire a car or scooter, but remember your international driving license. Alternatively, EGP5 will see you anywhere around Sharm in a micro-bus.

ACCOMMODATION:

There's a huge choice of accommodation styles and prices in Sharm. Mostly hotels of various standards and in Nabq you can also find hotels and smaller, more intimate digs. Whatever you want really.

FOOD AND DRINK:

The spot of Nabq is 20 minutes from Sharm centre where there are a huge amount of resort facilities, including restaurants, bars and clubs. Nabq is more peaceful than Sharm, but still has a large supermarket and several restaurants.

NO WIND:

If you're visiting with the family they won't get bored. A public promenade runs along the front of the local hotels and the access to shops, bars and restaurants makes it ideal for the non-kiters while you ride. Walk the prom, or rent one of the many available electric scooters. Alternatively just chill out on one of the sun loungers and enjoy the entertainment. Food and drinks available all day from the nearby beach bar. The list of non-kiting activities is literally endless here, including: world class diving, snorkelling, 18-hole golf course, FIA pro go-kart track, motorcross course, water parks, wakeboarding, dolphin shows, horse riding and health spas. We haven't even mentioned Cairo, the ancient pyramids or the world's greatest open air museum', Luxor!
