THE LURE Situated off the northern coast of Venezuela, Los Roques is home to simply perfect kiting conditions. Ninety miles north of Venezuela, The Los Roques National Park is the world's largest marine reserve archipelago in the world and consists of many islands with solitary beaches, colourful lagoons and regular trade winds. Most kiters visit Los Roques on a day-trip from El Yaque, Margarita.
ON THE WATER: Protected by the Great Barrier Reef, there are flat waters and waves to be found in and around the islands. Wind direction doesn't matter as there are so many beaches facing different directions. Rescue cover can be hired in advance and the water remains shallow, dropping to three metres at its deepest point.
WIND & WEATHER: Air temperature averages 27°C all year, peaking in September at 31°C. At night, the temperature only drops four or five degrees
WATER: The general conditions don't get much better than here and it's no wonder people return for their kiting fix year after year with average water temperatures of 24°C.
OFF THE WATER: There's a good selection of accommodation on Los Roques for all the family, but all the accommodation is roughly a kilometre away from the riding spots.
MARGARITA AND COCHE: It is worth considering combining a trip to Los Roques with one to Margarita or Coche
AIRPORTS: Los Roques has it's own small airport and has flights from Caracas (CCS) and Margarita (PMV).
