MOVE: Snowkite Launch - with a foilRIDER: Tom Ligonnet / Aboards / OzoneGet out the car, unload the bag and let the dream unfold...
(Shot on location at the World Snowkite Masters, Col du Lautaret, France, January 2009) | | Board, kite, helmet, harness... let's find some powder. |
 | | Lay your kite out with the trailing edge 90 degrees to the wind. |
 | | Put enough snow on the trailing edge to weigh it down, just like you would with your kite on the beach to stop it blowing away.
|
 | Tom is a seasoned pro and therefore already has his lines attached to his kite. If you don't have yours already attached just lay them out straight upwind from the kite and attach as normal.
Strap yourself to your snowboard, steady yourself and grab your bar.
|
 | | Unwrap the elastic from the ends of your bar and start to unwrap your lines. |
 | | As you unwrap your lines slide backwards on your edge.
|
 | | As you unwrap your lines slide backwards on your edge. |
 | | Keep going until your lines are fully unwound. Then make a visual check that they are set-up correctly and free of any twists. |
 | | Hook in as usual, making sure your leash is correctly attached. |
 | | From here, the more you edge down hill the more wind will fill the kite. |
 | | Sheet out to allow the kite to fill with wind correctly and lift off the ground. |
 | | Stay sheeted out, allowing the kite to climb safely through the middle of the window. Bend your back leg more than your front leg and start to put pressure on your heels to absorb the pull as the kite generates power. From there, you're away... |
 | | Now the only problem you have is deciding exactly where you want to go... |
 | | ...too easy and will put a smile in your helmet before you know it |
